Falcons Waive 11 Players on Sunday

The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have waived TE Tim Biere, FB Devonte Campbell, LB Nick Clancy, TE Colin Cloherty, QB Seth Doege, DE Cam Henderson, T Jeff Nady, RB Donald Russell, S Troy Sanders, C Matt Smith, and DE Brandon Thurmond.

Biere, 6-4, 260 pounds, was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as a college free agent out of the University of Kansas following the 2012 NFL Draft. He caught 66 passes for 798 yards with six touchdowns in four seasons with the Jayhawks.

Campbell, 6-2, 255 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Maryland. He played in 27 games with four starts in his career with the Terrapins.

Clancy, 6-3, 232 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Boston College. He played in 42 games and collared 187 tackles (109 solo) with 12 passes defensed and seven tackles for loss for the Eagles.

Cloherty, 6-2, 252 pounds, was originally signed as a college free agent by the Indianapolis Colts out of Brown University following the 2009 NFL Draft. He has played in eight games with one start during stints with Indianapolis, San Francisco and Jacksonville.

Doege, 6-1, 197 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Texas Tech. He was named the MVP of the Meineke Car Care Bowl after leading the Red Raiders to a win completing 31 of 45 passes for 271 yards with one touchdown.

Henderson, 6-5, 245 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of the University of Central Florida. He played in 25 games in two seasons at UCF.

Nady, 6-7, 305 pounds, was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as a college free agent out of Nevada following the 2013 NFL Draft. He started 36 games for the Wolfpack and was a two-time all-conference selection.

Russell, 5-11, 212 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Georgia State. He is the Panthers all-time leading rusher with 1,412 career yards.

Sanders, 6-0, 214 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Appalachian State. He was a three-year starter at cornerback and safety for the Mountaineers.

Smith, 6-4, 296 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Kentucky. He anchored the Wildcats offensive line for three seasons as the starting center

Thurmond, 6-2, 260 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He recorded 70 tackles (41 solo), 25 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble in 2012.

The Falcons are required to reduce their roster to 75 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 27 as part of the NFL's mandatory roster cut down. Atlanta will have to trim its roster to 53 players by August 31 and may establish an eight-player practice squad beginning on September 1.
