2013 (Falcons)

Active Played in 10 games with one start as a rookie in 2013. Recorded 16 total tackles (nine solo) with one pass defense. Also added four tackles on special teams. Made his NFL debut against New England (9/29). Saw extensive playing time at Green Bay (12/8) and notched ten tackles (five solo). Made his first career start at safety and totaled five tackles and one quarterback hit on QB Kirk Cousins against Washington (12/15).

Started 29 of 51 career games at Notre Dame posting 179 tackles (94 solo) with four tackles for loss, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and one half sack. Played in every game during his career with the Irish, including the 2013 BCS National Championship Game. Recorded a career-high 16 total tackles (seven solo) against the Crimson Tide. Helped lead the Irish to their first number 1 ranking in the AP and Coaches’ polls since 1993. Also anchored a defense that led to Notre Dame’s first ever number one ranking in the BCS and its first apperance in the BCS National Championship Game. Appeared in 13 games with nine starts as a true freshman in 2009 and posted 70 tackles (49 solo) with one tackle for loss, one interception, one pass broken up, and one fumble recovery. As senior captian, registered 77 tackles (39 solo), second most on Irish defense behind LB Manti Te’o, with two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. During his junior season in 2011, played in all 13 games, including eight starts, and tallied 40 tackles, one interception, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Played in all 13 games with eight starts for the Irish as a sophomore in 2010 and posted 50 tackles (30 solo) with two passes defensed, 1.5 tackles for loss and one interception. Was one of just three freshmen to play in every game in 2009. He played extensively on special teams and alternated between outside linebacker and safety logging 12 tackles (six solo), one half sack and one half tackle for loss.

Personal

Attended Vero Beach High School in Vero Beach, FL where he was selected to the Jacksonville Times-Union’s Florida Super 75 squad and named a first-team Class 6A all-state selection as a senior. Tallied 137 tackles, including eight tackles for a loss and three sacks during senior campaign at Vero Beach High School. Participated in 2009 U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio. He was also selected to play in Hawaii Football Prep Classic, featuring all-star team from the U.S. mainland against an all-star team from Hawaii. Rated the eighth-best overall prospect in Florida according to Rivals.com, a member of Florida Varsity Top 100, and named a SuperPrep All American. Named District 17 Player of the Year in as a junior 2007 and as a senior in 2008. Full name is Ezekiel Edward Motta. Son of Bill Motta, who was the defensive coordinator at Vero Beach High School. Enrolled in College of Arts and Letters at Notre Dame as an industrial design major.
