Joe Danna joins the Falcons after serving two years as the Miami Dolphins Assistant Defensive Backs Coach. Danna brings 14 years of coaching experience with him, including four years of NFL experience. While with Miami, Danna assisted in producing one of the top secondary units in the NFL. Under his guidance, the Dolphins pass defense ranked eighth in the NFL in 2010.
Prior to joining the Dolphins, Danna spent two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons as a defensive assistant (2008-09). Danna was a four-year letter winning wide receiver at Central Michigan University (1995-98) and remained with the Chippewas following his playing career to serve as a student assistant (1999) and then as a graduate assistant (2000). Following a season as graduate assistant at the University of Georgia (2001), Danna returned to his alma mater where for the next four seasons he served as wide receivers coach (2002, 2005) and safeties coach (2003-04). Following his tenure at Central Michigan, he spent the next two seasons as the defensive backs coach at Georgia Southern (2006) and James Madison (2007) before joining the Falcons in 2008.
Danna earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education and social studies with a language arts minor from Central Michigan. The Midland, Michigan native and his wife, Nicole, have two sons, Luke and Zack, and a daughter, Lindsey. He enjoys spending time with his family.
