Eric Sutulovich begins his third season with the Falcons serving in the role of Assistant Special Teams Coach. He will continue to assist Special Teams Coordinator Keith Armstrong.
With the assistance of Sutulovich, the Falcons special teams continued to excel in 2010. Atlanta’s kickoff unit held opponents to an NFL-best average starting position of their own 22.2-yard line after kickoffs. The Falcons were led by specialist KR/WR Eric Weems who averaged 27.5 yards per kickoff return, which ranked third in the NFL and earned his first Pro Bowl selection. Kicker Matt Bryant had a stellar season as well, as he scored 128 points by hitting 28 of 31 field goals and splitting the uprights on all 44 PATs.
Sutulovich came to Atlanta after working for one season with the Detroit Lions as an Offensive Assistant in 2008. His original foray into the NFL came with the Houston Texans in its inaugural campaign in 2002. Sutulovich was the team’s Assistant Special Teams Coach for four seasons (2002-05). During his time with the Texans, he helped Houston rank first in the League in punts downed inside the 20-yard line (120), fourth in opponent punt return yard average (7.4), sixth in the AFC in kickoff touchbacks (30) and seventh in the conference in kickoff return average (22.1).
Prior to his stint in the NFL, Sutulovich spent one season as a football assistant for the University of Kansas. He also spent time in the collegiate ranks with Fort Scott Community College as the Offensive Coordinator (2001), the University of Pittsburgh as the offensive graduate assistant (2000-01) and Louisiana Tech as the offensive graduate assistant (1997-99).
Sutulovich’s coaching background also includes the Indoor Football League as he labored one year as Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator of the Casper Calvary in 2000.
In his stopover at Pittsburgh, the Panthers finished third in the Big East Conference and competed in the 2000 Insight.com Bowl. The Pittsburgh offense ranked seventh nationally in pass efficiency and 18th in total passing.
Sutulovich and his wife, Melissa, have two daughters, Sage and Ellie, and one son, Maddax.
