Everything You Need to Know About WR Gabriel

One day after releasing their initial 53-man roster, the Falcons signed third-year pro Taylor Gabriel. Here's what you need to know about Atlanta's newest wide receiver:

● A native of Dallas, Tex., Gabriel went to college at Abilene Christian University, where he finished second in school history in receptions (215), receiving yards (3,027) and touchdown catches (27).

● Although he didn't get drafted, Gabriel enjoyed a productive rookie campaign with the Browns, recording 36 catches for 621 yards and a touchdown. Last season he tallied 28 receptions for 241 yards.

● Like many Falcons acquired in 2016, Gabriel is known for his speed. He reportedly ran a 4.28-second 40-yard dash at his pro day. Since 1999, only six players have put up faster times at the Scouting Combine.

● During Gabriel's first year in Cleveland, he worked with Kyle Shanahan, who, at the time, was the Browns' offensive coordinator. Like fellow WR Aldrick Robinson, Gabriel has joined Atlanta with valuable experience in the system.

● Shanahan is known for his ability to design effective screens, and Gabriel, who performs well in the open field, is especially valuable on such routes. In 2014, he made 13 catches for 125 yards on screen passes.

● Gabriel can also use his feet to create explosive plays, as evident by the 70-yard catch he made as a rookie. That season, 305 of his total yards came when targeted 20 or more yards down the field.
