Dome-Field Advantage!

Posted Dec 22, 2012

With Saturday night's win over the Lions, the Falcons have assured themselves playoff games in the Georgia Dome throughout the postseason as they earned the top seed in the NFC by topping Detroit 31-18.

The Falcons entered Saturday night with one final regular-season goal: clinch the NFC's top seed for the playoffs. With their 31-18 win on national television, the Falcons have done just that. The top seed in the playoffs assures them home-field advantage through the playoffs in addition to a first-round bye when the playoffs begin in two weeks.

The playoff run they're about to begin is the fourth trip to the playoffs under fifth-year head coach Mike Smith. The last time the Falcons earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs was in 2010 when they finished with a 13-3 record.

This season is the first time in franchise history the Falcons have reached the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. This season's division title is the fifth in Falcons history.
