Falcons place rookie first-rounder Jerry on IR

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Falcons today placed rookie defensive tackle Peria Jerry on injured reserve and signed rookie defensive tackle Vance Walker off the practice squad to the active roster. The club also signed cornerback Glenn Sharpe to the practice squad after rookie cornerback William Middleton was signed to another team's active roster.

The 24th overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, Jerry started both of the Falcons first two regular season games on the interior defensive line, notching one tackle and two quarterback hurries.

Walker was voted a 2008 first-team All-ACC selection by the ACC Sports Journal and was a ’08 Bednarik Award Semifinalist. A first-team ACC selection, he finished his Georgia Tech career with 110 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Walker's 8.5 sacks in 2007 were the 12th-highest total for a single-season in Georgia Tech annals. Upon graduation in 2009, Walker ranked 15th in school history with 13.0 career sacks.

Sharpe, 6-0, 184 pounds, was originally signed by the Falcons as a free agent on April 28, 2008 and spent the majority of last season on the practice squad. He was elevated to the 53-man roster for the final three regular season games in ’08.
