FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons today signed free agent offensive lineman Jeremy Newberry.
Newberry, 6-5, 315 pounds, is entering his 12th NFL season having competed in 120 career games with 107 starts.
The University of California graduate spent the majority of his career in San Francisco after being selected by the 49ers in the second round (58th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft. From 1999-2007, Newberry started in every game he competed in, which includes every regular season game in 1999, 2000, ’02 and ’03. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2001 and ’02 and was named to the All-NFC squad by Pro Football Weekly in 2002.
On two occasions, Newberry was awarded the 49ers Bobb McKittrick award, which is given to the team’s offensive lineman who best exemplifies the dedication, excellence and commitment. He was also the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award in 2003 and 2005.
Following his first nine years in San Francisco, Newberry spent one season in Oakland (2007) and competed in all 16 games for the San Diego Chargers last season.
