ATLANTA -- Atlanta Falcons defensive end Chauncey Davis, DeKalb Juvenile Court Judge Desiree Peagler, DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May and more spoke to nearly 100 youth at the Browns Mill Road Recreation Center on June 5. Davis, along with Commissioner May and Judge Peagler, launched a special anti-bullying campaign aimed at youth in the Atlanta Metro area. The event focused on both resources for victims of bullying and consequences of those who bully others.

“Something has to be done to combat this reckless behavior of bullying and to help build the self-esteem of both the person being bullied and the bully,” said Davis, whose started the Chauncey Davis Foundation to address health and wellness related issues in the community. “As adults, if we don’t intervene now, we will hear more and more reports of suicides, gun violence, depression, drug/alcohol abuse, higher dropout rates and more with our young people.”

The event consisted of approximately 45 minutes of motivational speakers, question and answer sessions and more. The program also included special presentations from William Clendenen (Clayton County- Gang Task Force), Det. R. Beck and Sgt. W.L. Pinckney (DeKalb Schools P.D. -Gang Investigation Unit).

“Recently in Atlanta, a young student committed suicide after his family said he was constantly bullied, teased and taunted at school,” recalled Davis. “That’s one life that could have been saved. He could have become a professional football player, teacher, astronaut, lawyer, doctor or even the President. But now, we will never know.”
