Players help area youth with holiday shopping

DULUTH, Ga. -- Three dozen teenagers from the metro area have holiday shopping stories to tell that will make their friends envious.

Teens from Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta had the chance to "Shop with a Jock" Tuesday evening at Sports Authority, checking items off their wish lists with 10 Atlanta Falcons players.

"Next year they'll still be talking about this experience," said Shatavia Richardson, Program Events Manager for the club.

Participants enjoyed dinner with Falcons players courtesy of Chick-fil-A before putting $100 Sports Authority gift cards to work. Shopping carts quickly filled with Falcons jerseys, shoes and gym bags but tackle Todd Weiner pointed out several shoppers made sure to get gifts for others in their lives, particularly family.

"It's great to see the excitement on their face," said Weiner, who was recently honored as the Falcons community Man of the Year. "It's also great to see them buy stuff for their families."

Weiner joined guard Harvey Dahl, running back Michael Turner, linebacker Michael Boley, defensive tackles Kindal Moorehead and Grady Jackson, defensive end Chauncey Davis, linebackers Tony Gilbert and Stephen Nicholas and fullback Ovie Mughelli.
