FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons today signed free agent running back Chris Barclay to the practice squad. The Falcons had an available practice squad roster spot after running back Kenneth Darby was signed by the St. Louis Rams to its active roster.
Barclay, 5-10, 180 pounds, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2006. He spent the majority of the 2006 campaign on the Browns practice squad and following an appearance in NFL Europa in 2007, Cleveland re-signed Barclay back to the practice squad in 2007. On November 22, 2007, Barclay was signed off of the Cleveland practice squad by the Tennessee Titans. With the Titans, he competed in five games while recording one carry for three yards. Barclay was released by Tennessee on December 23, 2007 and was claimed by the New Orleans Saints off of waivers the following day. The Wake Forest graduate was with the Saints in training camp this year before being released with an injury settlement.
Darby was signed to the Falcons practice squad earlier this season on September 1, 2007. He was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft before being released at the end of training camp.
