Head Coach Mike Smith, July 30
Q: What’s the update on Jamaal Anderson?
A: “It was good to see Jamaal out there. He made it through the entire practice.”
Q: How do you plan to bring Grady (Jackson) along?
A: “Grady is going to work individually and go through some drills. Them we will bring him on in a couple of days. We will slowly bring him back into the contact drills because he hasn’t participated in any OTAs.”
Q: Has any one player or position really stuck out in your head these last couple of days?
A: “I have been really pleased with the way our wide receivers have been working. I think that’s a solid group from top to bottom. It’s going to be really competitive in terms of who makes our football team. There are some great guys out here but we can’t keep them all.”
Q: Roddy (White) is having an incredible camp. What are your thoughts on him?
A: “Roddy is very talented. He made a great catch at the end of practice and he has been working extremely hard. It looks like he hasn’t missed anything from the injury during OTAs. He is doing well and he is out there catching extra passes.
Q: Did you think this was a physical practice?
A: “Yes. I thought it was a spirited practice and the pacing of it went well. The guys fought through the heat here in the middle of the day. It’s a tough time to be out there with full pads.
Q: What’s the preparation for Emmitt Thomas being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
A: “Emmitt is a great person and an even better football coach. Personally, were excited for him. He won’t be with us for four or five days. He’s going up to Canton, Ohio, with his family. Going into the Hall of Fame is an honor and we are glad to have him here.”
Q: What’s going to be your quarterback situation for the first three games of the season?
A: “We want to give everybody an opportunity to go out there and compete. It might take a couple of preseason games before we can make that decision.”
Q: What’s your opinion on Brent Grimes?
A: “Brent has played in NFL Europa and has been a practice squad player. He has some games under his belt, just not at this level. It’s going to be a learning curve, but he’s got a good skill set. He just has to focus everyday and try to get better.”
