FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame today announced that Atlanta Falcons greats Steve Bartkowski and Claude Humphrey will be inducted into the 2008 class during a ceremony to be held May 31, 2008 in Atlanta.

Known simply as “Bart,” Steve Bartkowski was the first overall pick by the Falcons in the 1975 NFL Draft, and enjoyed an 11-season career as the team’s quarterback.  Bart holds Falcons records for most touchdowns in a season (31 in 1980), most career passing yards (23,468), and most career touchdown passes (154).  He also led the Falcons to the team’s first Divisional Championships in 1981 and 1982.

As the Falcons first draft pick in the 1968 Draft, Claude Humphrey played at defensive end for the Falcons for 10 years, where he was a six-time Pro Bowler and the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.  He is the Falcons career sack leader with 62.5 and had a career-high 15 sacks in 1976.

Bartkowski and Humphrey will join four other Atlanta sports icons when they are inducted into the 2008 class. Other inductees include NASCAR legend Bill Elliott, Olympic gold medalist Edwin Moses, Braves President John Schuerholz and LPGA founding member Louise Suggs.

The six inductees were chosen from a group of 44 nominees in a multi-step selection process culminating in the final vote by the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame Honors Court, a prestigious group of Atlanta sports, media, and business leaders.

The 2008 class will be inducted at the Hall of Fame’s Fourth Annual Induction Ceremony on May 31 at The Emory Conference Center and Hotel in Atlanta. Tickets to the event, which is open to the public, are $100. Individuals can make a reservation by calling Bev Bennett at 770-394-3359. More information is available at AtlantaSportsHallofFame.org.
