Falcons-Saints Game Notes

ATLANTA -- Exclusive game notes and injury updates live from the Georgia Dome press box.

  • Owner and CEO Arthur Blank discussed today's sentencing of quarterback Michael Vick to 23 months in federal prison after his guilty plea on dogfighting charges in August.
  • Tight end Alge Crumpler's first quarter reception extended his streak of catching at least one pass in a game to 74 straight games played.
  • Punter Michael Koenen booted a season-high 60-yard punt midway through the first quarter that pinned the Saints deep in their own territory at the one-yard line. His previous long in 2007 was a 55-yard punt in week  three versus Carolina and in week six vs. the New York Giants. His all-time high was a 67-yard punt on 9/18/05 at Seattle.
  • Quarterback Chris Redman connected with rookie wide receiver Laurent Robinson for a 41-yard reception late in the first quarter, the longest completion of both Redman and Robinson's careers. On the next play, with the Falcons down 7-0, Redman hit Roddy White on a sideline fly pattern for a 33-yard touchdown.
  • Wide receiver Roddy White's 33-yard touchdown catch marked the ninth game this season White has caught a pass over 30 yards. The touchdown grab was White's fifth of the season and the eighth of his career.
  • Redman became only the eighth quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 100 yards in the first quarter of a game. Redman completed 6 of 10 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown in the opening period. The last Falcons' quarterback to accomplish the feat was Doug Johnson, who tallied 114 yards in the first 15 minutes of play on November 23, 2003 versus Tennessee. Redman also finished the first half with 199 yards, the most in a half for his career.
  • Running back Jerious Norwood's 46-yard fourth-quarter reception was the longest of his career. Norwood's previous high of 32 yards came on 10/29/07 at Cincinnati.
  • Wide receiver Michael Jenkins' nine catches marked a career high for the fourth-year receiver, as did his 83 yards receiving.
  • Linebacker Michael Boley forced a Saints fumble on a Falcons punt in the fourth quarter. The fumble recovery by David Irons led to an eventual Falcons touchdown by Jenkins.
  • In his first start since Oct. 20, 2002, quarterback Redman completed 23 of 40 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns. His 298 passing yards and 40 attempts set career-highs while his two touchdowns tied his career mark. Redman also posted the second-highest passing total for the Falcons this year, which was second to Joey Harrington’s mark of 361 yards against Carolina in Week 3.
  • Redman completed his third and fourth touchdowns of the season to White at the 1:22 mark in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7 and to Jenkins in the fourth quarter.
