The Atlanta Falcons today placed cornerback Lewis Sanders on injured reserve and signed cornerback Brent Grimes from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

In the second half of Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay, Sanders suffered a partial tear of his right pectoral muscle. This season, he recorded 32 tackles (28 solo) and two passes defensed in 14 games. He set a season-high with seven tackles twice against Jacksonville in Week 2 and Houston in Week 4.

Grimes, 5-10, 180 pounds, has spent the majority of the season on the Falcons practice squad. He was activated to the 53-man roster on October 29, but was waived and signed back to the practice squad on November 6. Grimes was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by Atlanta on May 16, 2006 after a collegiate career at Shippensburg University where he set school records in career passes defensed (38) and interceptions (27).
