Falcons-Bucs Game Notes

ATLANTA -- Live news, notes and injury updates straight from the Georgia Dome press box throughout the game.

  • The Falcons-Bucs game is sold out, as Falcons partner Flagstar Bank and Fox 5 Atlanta purchased the remaining tickets prior to the Thursday deadline to lift the local television blackout.
  • The Atlanta Falcons have announced that quarterback Byron Leftwich will get the start against the Buccaneers. Also, starting wide receiver Joe Horn is inactive for the game, and he will be replaced in the lineup by rookie Laurent Robinson. Get the complete starting lineups and inactives for the Falcons-Bucs game.
  • Leftwich's first game-action since week five began with a 14-yard completion out of the shotgun to wide receiver Michael Jenkins.
  • INJURY UPDATE: Rookie defensive Trey Lewis injured his right knee on the Falcons' first defensive series of the game, with 11:16 remaining in the first quarter. Lewis, in obvious pain, was attended to by trainers for about 4-5 minutes before being helped off the field. Lewis was driven to the locker room in a cart a short time later. He was replaced in the lineup by Montavious Stanley. Lewis did not return to the game, and the extent of his injury will be updated during Head Coach Bobby Petrino's Monday press conference.
  • At the 8:55 mark in the first quarter, rookie cornerback Chris Houston stripped Michael Pittman, forcing his first career NFL fumble which was recovered by linebacker Keith Brooking.
  • INJURY UPDATE: Defensive tackle Rod Coleman left the game late in the first quarter with a right arm injury. He was examined first on the sideline then walked to the locker room for further evaluation. He was replaced in the game by Johnathan Babineaux. The Falcons sustained injuries to both of their starting defensive tackles in the first quarter. Coleman returned to the game with six minutes remaining in the second quarter with his right arm heavily taped.
  • INJURY UPDATE:  Todd Weiner left the game halfway through the second quarter with a knee injury. His return to the game is questionable. Winer was replaced in the game by tackle Quinn Ojinnaka.
  • INJURY UPDATE: Tight end Dwayne Blakely was shaken up on kickoff return coverage with 10:35 remaining in the first quarter. We walked slowly off the field under his own power. Blakely later went to the locker room for further observation, and his return to the game is questionable.
  • Defensive end John Abraham posted his team-leading seventh sack of the season, dropping Bucs quarterback Jeff Garcia for a five-yard loss. Abraham's seven sacks are his most in a season since his 10.5 sacks during the 2005 campaign.
  • INJURY UPDATE: Abraham was shaken up with 6:40 remaining in the third quarter, walking off the field very gingerly after an incomplete, Garcia third-down pass. He did not miss any time, returning to the game on the next defensive series.
  • With the offense struggling throughout the game, Joey Harrington replaced Leftwich late in the third quarter.
  • Rookie Jason Snelling, recently activated from the practice squad, notched his first carry of his NFL career late in the fourth quarter -- a 7-yard gain.
  • Wide receiver Adam Jennings pulled in his first career reception, a 4-yard catch from Harrington late in the game. Jennings followed it up with a 7-yard touchdown catch, his first professional touchdown and the Falcons' only score of the game.
  • Robinson set a career high with his 33-yard reception from Harrington with just under two minutes remaining in the game. The catch set up the Falcons' only score of the game, a seven-yard Harrington to Jennings connection that helped the Falcons avoid a shutout.
  • Harrington completed 16 of his 20 passes (80 percent) for 139 yards and one touchdown.
  • Running back Warrick Dunn finished today’s contest with 32 rushing yards, 26 shy of the 10,000-yard mark. If Dunn hits the mark next week at home against Indianapolis, he would become the second running back this season and the 22nd in the NFL to top the 10,000-yard mark.
  • Dunn totaled eight receptions against Tampa Bay, which put him over 450 for his career. Dunn’s eight receptions are also a season-high as he finished third on the team in receiving yards with 40.
  • Tight end Alge Crumpler made his 90th career start. He finished with three receptions for 28 yards and continued his streak of catching at least one pass in his last 71 games played.
