Falcons-Panthers Game Notes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Official Falcons-Panthers game notes and updates straight from the Bank of America Stadium press box.

  • Tackle Todd Weiner was back in the starting lineup at right tackle after missing the Giants and Saints games with a knee injury.
  • Wide receiver Joe Horn was a late scratch after tweaking his hamstring in practice on Friday. Rookie wide receiver Laurent Robinson took his place in the starting lineup.
  • The 30-yard touchdown scamper by Warrick Dunn on the first Falcons' offensive series was his longest rush of the 2007 season.
  • Dunn's touchdown run was the 46th of his career.
  • Dunn ran for 56 yards in the first half, marking the first time he has rushed for back-to-back 50-yard first halfs since Oct. 1 and Oct. 15 of last season
  • For the first time in the 2007 season, the Falcons scored a touchdown on their opening drive. They strung together four first downs during the methodical 8-play drive that took 4:09 off the clock. quarterback Joey Harrington was a perfect 4 of 4 for 35 yards on the drive.
  • INJURY UPDATE: Harrington was hit hard after an incomplete pass and was slow to get up. The Falcons' medical staff time to evaluate Harrington, who left the game for one play. Quarterback Chris Redman came in for that play and completed a crucial third-down, 9-yard pass to tight end Alge Crumpler.
  • Redman's first-quarter completion was his first as a Falcon and his first in the NFL since Nov. 9, 2003 at St. Louis, when he was a member of the Baltimore Ravens.
  • INJURY UPDATE: Falcons tight end Martrez Milner injured his left ankle while being tackled with 4:14 remaining in the second quarter. He was examined on the turf for several minutes before being carted off the field. He did not return to the game.
  • For the third time this season, The Falcons held their opponent scoreless in the first quarter. They had previously held Jacksonville (week two) and Carolina (week three) to no points in the first quarter.
  • With his third-quarter game-tying 36-yard field goal, kicker Morten Andersen reached 2,500 points in his career. Andersen became the all-time leading scorer in NFL history in December of 2006.
  • Andersen's fourth quarter 47-yard field goal is tied for his longest of the season.
  • Atlanta held Carolina to three of 16 on third down conversions (.187). Carolina’s third down percentage was the lowest this season for the Falcons defense, topping last week’s best of 23 percent against San Francisco.
  • With a 20-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers, the Falcons pieced together back-to-back wins for the first time this season and the first time since Dec. 3 and 10 of the 2006 campaign.
  • With 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Harrington completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Crumpler, which proved to be the game-winner. The score was Harrington’s lone touchdown pass on the day while Crumpler went over 4,000 career receiving yards on the play.
  • Crumpler continued his streak of catching at least one pass in his last 70 games. Crumpler finished the day with two receptions for 39 yards.
