Head Coach Bobby Petrino
Q: What are your thoughts on getting back to practice and preparing for St. Louis?
A: “We came out Monday and worked and that helped us today. Anytime you can get out and practice, it’s good. Our attitude is still good and we are working hard. The players are in it to win the game and we are going to keep working at it.”
Q: How is Joe Horn doing in practice?
A: “Joe looked better. I think there is a real good chance that he’ll be up this week. He has to continue to build his speed and pace himself.”
Q: What is the status of Todd Weiner?
A: “Todd was not out here today. He’s still questionable and we’re not sure how it’s going to play out.”
Q: Are you going to continue to use Warrick Dunn the way you have all season even after he broke the 10,000-yard milestone?
A: “You bet. If you look at the two wins we had, we ran the offense through Warrick. He did a great job of running the ball and breaking tackles.”
Q: Have you considered any other job possibilities (after college coaching changes on Monday)?
A: “Monday is a hard day on all of us coaches. You have concerns for friends and family and everyone who walks around in the office feels bad when that happens.”
Q: Can you talk about Michael Boley’s performance this year?
A: “Michael is a very good student of the game. He goes into each game and has an understanding of what they are trying to do and what our scheme is on defense. He’s very fast and he’s kind of a combination between a linebacker and safety as far as his ability to play the run and cover. We couldn’t be happier with the way he has played.”
Q: Is Boley going to have any problems with his elbow wrapped up?
A: “It’s the injury he had the other night against Indianapolis. He’ll wear his brace all week and we’ll make a decision when we get closer to the game.”
Q: What are your thoughts on Steven Jackson?
A: “He’s good. He’s big, physical and he had a long run the other day. The biggest thing about Steven is that he has the combination of the speed and strength to break the long one. We have to do a great job with our gap control, get good support from our secondary and keep him contained because they like to hand him the ball a bunch.”
Q: How important is it to stay focused on stopping Jackson?
A: “It’s important and everyone understands what we are working on doing. I like the way our guys focus. We’ve always come out here and practiced hard. We just need to execute in the game and we just can’t beat ourselves. Over the last two games we’ve had some turnovers and penalties which have hurt us and hurt our chances of winning.”
Q: How does the No. 2 quarterback position look with Byron Leftwich?
A: “We have to look at the video. I thought Byron threw the ball well, but we’ll have to look at his movement. Chris (Redman) has been throwing the ball well.”
Q: What is your assessment of the offensive line right now?
A: “We have (Todd) McClure inside and he keeps things together and runs the show. Everyone else is battling. The offensive line has to come out of practice each week and improve on their fundamentals.”
Q: Can you talk about Joey Harrington and the offense.
A: “The biggest thing he needs to do is take care of the ball. They credited him with an interception the other night when it was really a fumble. The other interception really hurt us. That’s something that he’s done well. He’s going to be challenged this week with protections and that’s something (St. Louis) does well... they like to blitz a lot and I think they blitzed for 19-straight plays against Seattle. We’re going to have to get completions and use all of his weapons.”
Q: Are you amazed with Morten Andersen?
A: “No question about it. Once we get to his range, everyone on the team knows we are going to get three points. He amazes me everyday.”
