Falcons-Giants Game Notes

ATLANTA -- In-game notes and injury updates straight from the Georgia Dome press box during the Falcons-Giants game.

  • The Falcons game against the Giants is once again sold out; every game since Owner and CEO Arthur Blank purchased the team in 2002 has likewise been sold out.
  • The Falcons began the game's opening drive on the 30-yard line and promptly registered three straight first downs to reach the Giants' 29-yard line. The 41-yard drive was capped by a 47-yard Morten Andersen field goal to stake the Falcons to a 3-0 lead. The score marked the first time the Falcons put points on the board in their game-opening possession in the 2007 campaign.
  • The 47-yard field goal was Andersen's longest since Dec. 12, 2004, when he connected on a 48-yard field goal against Seattle when he was playing for the Minnesota Vikings.
  • BUMPS AND BRUISES: Fullback Corey McIntyre left the game with a hamstring injury midway through the second quarter while covering a Falcons' punt. He was able to limp off the field with the assistance of Falcons' medical staff. He did not return to the game.
  • Running back Jerious Norwood's 67-yard touchdown run was the longest of the season for Norwood and for the Falcons. The run was the third-longest of the second-year running back's career. He notched touchdown runs of 78 yards (vs. Arizona -- 10/1/06) and 69 yards (at Washington -- 12/3/06) in his rookie campaign.
  • Norwood's run was also the sixth-longest in franchise history. Below are the six longest runs in franchise history:

Player Date Opponent Rush
Warrick Dunn 10-15-06 NY Giants 90t
Jerious Norwood 10-1-06 Arizona 78t
Byron Hanspard 9-14-97 Oakland 77
Warrick Dunn 10-19-03 New Orleans 69t
Jerious Norwood 12-03-06 Washington 69t
Jerious Norwood 10-15-07 NY Giants 67t

  • BUMPS AND BRUISES: Defensive end John Abraham was shaken up with 3:25 remaining in the first half. He laid on the turf for about 30 seconds before walking off under his own power. He returned to the game on the first defensive series in the third quarter.
  • BUMPS AND BRUISES: Quarterback Joey Harrington was shaken up after a crushing Antonio Pierce sack with 1:50 remaining in the first half, but he did not miss any time (the Falcons were able to call a time out, and Harringon was well enough to keep playing).
  • Atlanta Abraham sacked Giants quarterback Eli Manning and forced a fumble, which was recovered by Chris Crocker. It was the second time this season Abraham recorded a sack and forced fumble in a game. The first came against the Houston Texans in Week 4. Abraham leads the team with five sacks this season.
  • Linebacker Michael Boley intercepted his second pass of the season when he picked off Giants Manning in the second quarter. The pick was his second in as many games and ties his season-high of two, which he set in 2006.
  • Cornerback DeAngelo Hall intercepted his second pass of the season, which ties Boley for the team lead. Hall’s interception return went for 33 yards.
  • In his first game this season returning from a leg injury, defensive tackle Rod Coleman posted three tackles against the Giants.
  • Falcons safety Lawyer Milloy recorded 11 solo tackles and has tallied over 900 for his career.
  • BUMPS AND BRUISES: Milloy left the game with 12:50 remaining in the third quarter, but he was able to return several plays later.
  • Atlanta wide receiver Michael Jenkins finished the game with two catches for 23 yards and has now registered 100 career catches.
