Head Coach Bobby Petrino

Q: How are you going to run the practice tomorrow at Piedmont Park?
A: “It’s not really going to be like a practice. We’re going to go out by groups and do some practice but we’re not filming it or anything like that. I guess it’s more of a demonstration than a practice.”

Q: Is that more to interact with the fans?
A: “Yeah, it’s for the fans to let them see the guys work a little bit. It’s something that’s real important to (Owner and CEO) Arthur (Blank). We’re certainly going to enjoy it and have fun with it. Once our players get out there they’ll really enjoy it.”

Q:  Do you give the veterans days off during training camp?
A: “(Keith) Brooking’s knee is a little sore so he needed to rest it. He was actually scheduled to practice but he has a little tendonitis in there. Hopefully he will be ready tomorrow morning.”

Q:  Is Doug Datish’s finger still hurt?
A: “Datish actually hurt his wrist. He had an X-ray and broke a bone in the wrist. He is scheduled Monday for surgery.”

Q:  Will Doug Datish be out for awhile?
A: “It didn’t sound like he’d be out for too long. I’m not actually sure what the (time length) is.”

Q:  One week is in the books. Can you assess how camp is going?
A: “I like the way the players have approached it, the way they are serious in the meetings and how they are coming out here on the field and working hard. We have to get more consistent. We have periods within the practice where one side of the ball looks good and the next period, the other side of the ball looks good. We need to get to where we are staying consistent on both sides of the ball and having great competition on every drill. We are doing some cross-over work and working on other things. That’s improved a lot and that will help us a lot when we get to game preparation. We’ve made some improvements, but we still have a long way to go.”

Q:  How much did it help having the referee crew out here?
A: “It’s helped a lot. Anytime you have that the players come out excited about practicing. Players look around and certainly have a tremendous amount of respect for those guys. I think the energy was great today and they were certainly going full speed.”

Q: How is David Irons doing in the secondary?
A: David Irons is the type of guy that is going to come out, work hard everyday and be competitive. He should be a very good player for us on special teams. He has to get use to the NFL rules in terms of the 5-yard area and when your hands can be on a receiver. Once he does that, he’ll have great recovery speed. Also, I think his competitiveness and his ability to catch up will really help him to be a player.”
