Atlanta Falcons RB Warrick Dunn underwent successful back surgery on July 21 and is expected to miss three to four weeks, the team announced today.
Dunn, who is entering his 11th season in the National Football League, rushed for 1,140 yards on 286 carries and scored four touchdowns en route to posting his fifth career 1,000-yard rushing season. Dunn’s 5,261 rushing yards as a Falcon are 4th all-time on the club's rushing list while his 9,461 career rushing yards rank 3rd among active NFL running backs.
"After the OTA workouts, I felt some discomfort in my back and legs that just never subsided," Dunn said. "After consulting with the medical staff, it was recommended that we have the surgery. The doctors told me that the discomfort would have lingered throughout the 2007 season had we not had the surgery, so I felt like this was the best course of action for me. I’ve had a tremendous off-season, and I feel great. I plan to come back stronger than ever and will do everything I can get help us get back to the playoffs."
Other Training Camp News: The Falcons announced today that starting weakside linebacker Demorrio Williams is far ahead of his rehab schedule from an off-season pectoral muscle injury. Williams will suit up and participate in Camp Petrino's first practice Thursday at 3 p.m.
