Falcons QB Michael Vick has donated $10,000 to United Way to help the families affected when a gunman killed and wounded several at Virginia Tech on April 16. Vick, who played football at Virginia Tech before joining the National Football League (NFL), donated the money to support the families as they deal with this crisis.

"When I saw what happened at Virginia Tech, I knew I needed to do something to help," Vick said. "I am challenging my teammates and other NFL players to give their time or money to help these families, too." Vick is making his donation through his foundation, The Vick Foundation.

United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta is collecting donations from the local community through a special fund and will direct them to United Way of Montgomery, Radford & Floyd, which serves the Virginia Tech area and will use the donations to provide help with funeral expenses, transportation for family members, mental health support and other services.

Atlantans can donate to the United in Caring Fund for Victims of the VA Tech Tragedy by calling United Way 211 by dialing 2-1-1 or 404.614.1000, or visiting unitedwayatlanta.org.
