Launched in 2005, AFYF’s Falcons Fitness Zones help kids become more physically active and make healthier eating choices. In partnership with the Metro Atlanta YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, the YWCA of Greater Atlanta, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County and other select or¬ganizations, the initiative seeks to increase the number of kids spending more time in organized physical activity year-round.
AFYF has invested nearly $2 million a year to increase opportunities for kids living in neighborhoods designated as Falcons Fit¬ness Zones. There are four Fitness Zones in the City of Atlanta and one in Hall County, home to the Atlanta Falcons. Through the Falcons Fitness Zones, AFYF works with community partners to expand existing physical fitness programs for youth and to create new opportunities that move kids from sedentary to active.
Falcons players and cheerleaders make regular visits to the Fitness Zones, where they engage kids in physical activities and emphasize the benefits of exercise and proper diet. As role models for many of the children in the Zones, Falcons players and cheerleaders can have a strong influence in changing the behaviors that lead to child¬hood obesity.
Presently there are more than 40 program sites operating across the five Fitness Zones, reaching about 10,000 disadvantaged youth. To become part of a Fitness Zone near you, please contact one of our partners for more information.
